Matt focuses on commercial litigation and business counseling. 

He advises clients on legal strategies, dispute resolution, risk management and litigation. He has extensive experience negotiating contracts and advising clients on a variety of commercial matters.  Some of the types of matters he handles are:

Enterprise-wide counseling

Commercial disputes

Fiduciary litigation

Energy litigation

Construction litigation

Trust and Estate litigation


Matt served as General Counsel for a biotech company that is the world leader in gender specific artificial insemination of livestock.  While in this position, he served as the primary advisor on all legal matters.  Some of the matters he handled in this position include:

Acquisitions of international and domestic subsidiaries

International and domestic litigation and arbitration matters

Compliance implementation and management


 

Matt also served as a commercial litigation shareholder at one of the largest San Antonio law firms.  Some of the types of matters he handled in this position include:

Obtained a favorable settlement payment to a defendant after the plaintiff demanded seven figures in a contract dispute concerning industrial mowers.

Obtained a favorable result for a biotech client in a dispute against a product manufacturer.

Obtained a favorable result for an aircraft engineer related to his design efforts on certain sensitive USAF aircraft.

Obtained a judgment confirming the acquisition of significant surface and mineral interests located within the South Texas Eagle Ford shale play in a dispute involving a series of trusts, bankruptcy estates and real estate properties.

Obtained a judgment on behalf of a pharmaceutical manufacturer on a multi-million dollar claim against a series of chemical suppliers.

Obtained a take-nothing defense judgment for a hospital and a series of individual doctors in a multi-million dollar hospital ownership dispute in the South Texas Valley.

Representation of an insurance company in first-party property insurance disputes and enterprise-wide consulting.

 


Matt also served as an adjunct professor of trial advocacy at St. Mary's University School of Law.  While there, Matt led the national mock trial program and trained students in trial and pre-trial advocacy skills
